"There is a holy man in Ars; go and see him." Throughout France this saying was heard, And people did - between 1830 and 1845 an average of 300 people visited Ars every day to meet with St. John Vianney.
St. Jean-Marie Vianney (1786-1859) is a Catholic saint who was parish priest (curé) of Ars, in France. He is known as St. John Vianney in English. On the occasion of his 150th death anniversary, Pope Benedict designated 2009 as the "Year of the Priests",wherein we pray especially for the holiness of our priests and pastors and an increase in priestly vocations . St. John Marie Vianney was truly a dedicated priest, a good pastor of souls. The Church has named him as the Patron of Parish Priests. His guidance was characterized by common sense, remarkable insight, and supernatural knowledge . His instructions were simple in language, full of imagery drawn from daily life and country scenes, but breathing faith and that love of God which was his life principle.
